Nudge Challenge Week 94 = Oh Crap!

NUDGED: "Learn to play Craps"

BACKSTORY: Craps is a popular casino game that many people enjoy, including my husband. I have watched him play this game many times (pre-COVID!) but I never learned how to play. I'm sure there are rules and strategies involved...but all I see are rolling dice and then cheering/yelling/booing/swearing.

This item has been on my list of things to learn for many years. What am I waiting for? It's time to actually do it!

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK: My grandma always encouraged learning and education. She told me often to learn all that I could as no one could take those lessons away from me. I never forgot that and always try to keep learning.

My husband gave me an introduction to Craps while on a walk with the dog (yes, discussing Craps while picking up crap!). He explained the basics of the game to give me a place to start in my studies. I then watched several online videos on how to play the game, how to read the table, how to bet and some basic strategies. There was much more to learn than I realized!

I didn't learn everything about the game, but I now know more than I did and I consider that a win. I think it will help to see the game being played in person so I can see how all the ideas work together. This is my hubs' birthday month, so we may be going to the casino sometime soon (with face masks!!). I doubt I will feel comfortable playing the game with my limited education and I don't like to lose money, but it will be much more interesting to watch it now!

LESSONS LEARNED: I have a long list of things I want to learn but without a deadline or firm plans, nothing happens. I didn't tackle learning how to play Craps until I gave myself a deadline thanks to this nudge. I would still be waiting to learn otherwise. Deadlines are important.

NEXT UP: I pulled this nudge a few times previously, but I always threw it back as I didn't think I could tackle it during COVID-19. I am ready to try this week as we figure out our new normal. The nudge is "take journal to coffee shop for 1 hour". While I won't be sitting in a coffee shop to journal (boo!), I can always get coffee from a drive thru and journal at home for one hour. I will find a safe way to complete this nudge in  tricky season. Our lives are always adapting now days!

Hope you are doing well too! Have a good week!
